Why we are AGAINST new year resolutions!

Unfortunately, the world we live in is extremely judgemental and puts a great deal of pressure on our inner and outer selves. We can read a story about a person dedicating their life to others, doing good deeds, cleaning up streets and helping those in need, which can make us feel...a bit shitty! About our own choices, morals and selfishness. We can go on Instagram and see all these people being fit and healthy, eating like rabbits and having muscles in places we didn't know there could be muscles and feel...a bit shitty! A bit fat, it can make us feel LESS. Especially during a time when a lot of us have been locked up at home, finding the strength not to loose it on our families, eating too much and exercising too little. This can spur us to make ‘new year resolutions’ that ASSUME we are not good enough.

If you are going to set yourself ‘goals’ for this year, make being kind to yourself at the top of the list. Don't be hard on yourself and remember that you can be and do anything you want.

Yoga gives the precious gift of experiencing ourselves from the inside out, self-acceptance and compassion for ourselves. Check in with yourself and enjoy the art of simply...just being.

Make yourself comfortable in the yoga crossed-leg position (or sit in a chair if you are unable to do this), picture someone you love, a friend, family member, child or pet. Send love and good wishes to them. Picture them well, happy and healthy. Then direct some of those loving feelings toward yourself. Picture yourself well, happy and healthy. Treat yourself kindly as you would a good friend. Silently repeat this affirmation “Love and acceptance bring healing.”

Lots of love, DeeDee and Mel @TheEnlightenment11 xoxo
