What Is An Empath?
Empaths are known as highly sensitive people, they have a keen ability to sense what people around them are thinking and feeling. Sometimes they feel exhausted because of the different energies from different environments or people around them.
Psychologists like to use the term empath to describe a person that experiences a great deal of empathy showing love and care to all they meet.
Often empaths can take on the pain of others at their own expense, often getting confused between their own emotions and other peoples.
Emapths need lots of rest to recharge and energise themselves, crowds can overwhelm an empath, pain, stress, arguments, music and loud noises.
Empaths truly have a gift but a lot of individuals will also call it a curse! The gift is really to be able to help others in a number of areas, emotionally, by tapping into the person and seeking what others would not normally sense or feel from a person. Considered a curse because not knowing how to distinguish and control the floods of emotions can be extremely overwhelming.
So how do you know if you are an empath?
Has anyone ever told you that you are too sensitive or too emotional? To just get over it or to be stronger in yourself? Do you feel drained when you spend time around certain people? Or even after a wonderful night out around lots of people? Can you tell when people aren’t telling you the whole truth? Do you get that feeling that runs through the body? Do you feel anxious in crowds? When a friend of yours is feeling particularly happy or distressed do you take on what they're feeling? If you answered yes to these it's a strong possibility you could belong to a special wonderful group empaths.
Ways to look after and protect your energy:
~ Have a support system, this could be a particular friend, therapist or diary that you can talk to/write in to get things off your chest.
~ Make sure you talk about what's going on with you as much as people offload onto you.
~ Know and understand that you cannot fix everything and everyone.
~ Keep check of your emotions every day, take a look at our Emotional Guidance Scale for more information on this.
~ Eat and sleep well, make time for your loved ones and spend time with them.
~ Have regular massages, make dedicated time for yourself!
~ Don't let anyone tell you ‘you're being too sensitive’ or ‘dramatic’ your feelings are you're feelings! You don't have to argue this...just walk away!
