Samhain / Halloween
What is Samhain?
It's the most wonderful time of the year...especially for witches! The fields are bare, the leaves have fallen from the trees, and the skies are going grey and cold. Samhain, more commonly known as Halloween, celebrates the cycle of life, death & rebirth. It is a time to reconnect with our ancestors and honour and celebrate those who have passed. This is the time when the veil between our world and the spirit realm is thin, so it's the perfect time of year to connect with the spirit side. Samhain also marks the last harvest of the year and so it is also considered the witches new year! This is a good time for us to look at wrapping up the old and preparing for the new in our lives. Think about the things you did in the last year. Have you left anything unresolved? If so, now is the time to wrap things up. Once you’ve gotten all that unfinished stuff cleared away and out of your life, then you can begin looking towards the next year. A fun tradition carried out on this night is to jump over a small fire for good luck for the following year.
Samhain/Halloween SECOND Full Moon this month!
The second Full Moon of the month (Hence the name Blue Moon, the Moon will not be blue in colour) occurs on the 31st in the sign of Taurus. It serves to reawaken an urgent interest in the physical world and our own sensual needs and desires. We should watch for stubbornness at this time, although some self-interest is healthy and necessary. The Moon is tightly aligned with Uranus, bringing some excitement and/or tension to our lives, leading to a new perspective. Unpredictability can stir things up, and surprises are likely. New spins on how to get comfortable can be in focus.
CELEBRATE
Depending on your spiritual beliefs, there are many ways you can celebrate, especially with the current situation and a lot of us not being comfortable trick or treating!
~Cook a feast with all seasonal meats, veg and wine
~ Write messages to loved ones/pets and burn them
~ Reflect on yourself over the last year, what was your high? What was your low?
~ Set yourself goals for the next year
~ Light candles dedicated to your loved ones
FUN FACTS
~ It is said that Trick or treating originated from people dressing up as passed on ancestors to honour them or dress in disguise to protect themselves from being attacked by evil entities.
~ Putting pumpkins outside your front door stops evil/unwelcome spirits from coming into your home.
